Renewing root account

Hi all.
-------------------
Does anybody know how I can renew root account? I mean returning files and configurations belonging to root.
I've lost some config files and I don't want to reinstall my OS.
By the way, I use Debian Lenny.

That would be an issue with recovering deleted files from the filesystem, not the root account. What filesystem are you using?

Well, actually my problem was opening synaptic. It showed me an error:
------------------
error could not create configuration directory /home/root/.synaptic - mkdir (2 No such file or directory)
------------------
I just changed the root home directory to '/root'(insted of /home/root) and that works properly now.
I think something corrupted configurations and changed root directory to /home/root mistakenly.
