Reinstalling BOOT partition

Hi All ,

Just a unique problem . I had a machine wherein i used to use Windows and Linux as a dual boot machine . Linux's boot was in Primary partition . Last week i had to reinstall my windows . So now my linux boot partition is washed off . My windows is up and running . Also the linux partitions other than boot are also intact . Is there any method by which I can bring up my Linux OS without having to reinstall whole linux ? Just like reinstalling only boot again ?? Waiting for your valuable resonses . Thanx .

Hi.

The best solution is

- to install the linux bootloader not into your MBR but into the boot record of the linux root partition

- to copy your LINUX boot sector into a file

- copy that file on your windows partition

- refer to that LINUX-bootsector within windows bootloader-ini-file "boot.ini"

There's a wiki-page about that:

good luck,
Stephan

P.S.: You don't have to reinstall Linux for that.
If you don't have a boot floppy disk for your Linux,
take a Knoppix or just another Live-Linux CD in order to
get access to the commands mentioned in the WiKi
