I've tried this as root, as well as a regular user. I am trying to customize my login screen using the Login Manager. I made all the changes, it looks good, but when I logout/restart..it's still set to default. I'm new with Linux..it's my 5th day with the OS, after switching from Win2k. It's an excellent operating system..video/sounds works great..just can't seem to figure this out. If anyone has any ideas..it'd be greatly appreciated..thanks!

What window or desktop manager are you using?

I've changed it using Gnome (I think it is somewhere in the gnome control panel) but have never tried with KDE.

. Oh..I'm using KDE, I don't think I installed Gnome...I can install it anytime I want right? And just choose what Window manager I want to use..I just customized KDE and I don't wanna lose any settings :/

yeah you can install Gnome and it shouldn't mess up your KDE settings.

I've never done it myself, but it can be done.

Alternatively you can get ximian desktop 2 (whcih is what I am using) which seems to be pretty popular. It also has the advantage of being dead easy to install (See www.ximian.com)

To allow for configuring of your login screen you can open up the Add/Remove programs screen, go under the X Desktop menu and take the check out of the box by gdm ( this is what RH uses as default, I've never figured out how to change this one ) and once gdm is removed then the kdm login manager will be the default, since you are using KDE you can then go under the login manager under the KDE Control Panel as root and customize to your hearts content.
