recursive file and checksum comparison

hi,

recently I have been trying to backup my collection of music and videos from an old external drive (NTFS) to a raid 1 (EXT3) running on a NAS.
After having copied everything over to the raid, I checked the filecount on both drives and now there are "33,267 items, totalling 199.0 GB" on the source drive, but only "33,182 items, totalling 196.2 GB" on the destination drive. Apparently some files are missing, but I got no warnings or errors while copying. How can I find out which files are missing, and if there are any damaged files (i.e. a "diff -r" with checksum comparison)?

thanks

Dominik

The 'rsync' command is designed for this type of task: http://www.abbeyworkshop.com/howto/u...ync/index.html

Depends on the exact cmd you used; a typical error with 'cp' is to accidentally not get the hidden files (leading '.').

I used nautilus to copy the files. I've also tried it with rsync ("rsync -vaz /source/dir/ /dest/dir/") but the filecounts still don't match.

Well, get a list of filenames on each system, then use sort and/or uniq to compare/find which ones are missing. That's the key to start with.
