Recover Partition which was type:fuseblk and mistakenly formatted to type vfat
Hi All,
I had a partition called Software which was in format of fuseblk and mistakenly i have executed the command mkfs.vfat and format it.
Initial Partition Details /dev/sdd1 on /run/media/thilinad/Software's type fuseblk (rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,user_id=0,group_id=0,default_permissions,allow_other,blksize=4096)
which now shows as /dev/sdd1 on /run/media/thilinad/07B8-F2F9 type vfat (rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,uid=1000,gid=1000,fmask=0022,dmask=0077,codepage=437,iocharset=ascii,short name=mixed,showexec,utf8,errors=remount-ro,uhelper=udisks2)
Required to recover the partition & files which was in the partition.
My OS is Linux localhost.localdomain 3.9.8-100.fc17.x86_64 #1 SMP Thu Jun 27 19:19:57 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Read http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec_Step_By_Step then run PhotoRec with the "/debug /log" args on /dev/sdd and if you're going to recover files make sure you write them to another device with enough free space.
That's because you formatted the partition. Doing that destroys meta data (like file names kept in the parent directory inode).

Kind of depends on what the data is worth to you. Some people would give a limb to be able to recover files no matter what the name is. Asserting the files are recovered with their integrity intact (no guarantee) then magic ('man file'), file data (like EXIF data in photos), even a partial backup, may help restore (some) names.
