question about upgradepkg on slackware 9.1

hey.... i have been trying upgradepkg on my system latly...and everytime i do it i type upgradepkg newpackage .... and it goes through the steps then all of a sudden i get this...

Removing package /var/log/packages/wget-1.9.1-i486-1.tgz-upgraded-2004-01-29,23:11:41...

Cannot install ./wget-1.9.1-i486-1.tgz: package does not end in .tgz
Package wget-1.8.2-i386-2 upgraded with new package ./wget-1.9.1-i486-1.tgz.

but the new package does end in tgz.... so what am i doing wrong?

and it deletes both old and new package off my system totally...
