put a new kernel


Hi there i want to replace my kernel with a new one. What version i must put? Where i must start reading?

As a general rule the new kernel will work OK as long as it as new or newer than your old kernel. I recommend you download the latest kernel from:

www.kernel.org

is a good place to start.

In the Slackware subforum there is a Kernel Compiling Guide. It works fine for most distros. You may want to read that too.

here it doesn't get much easier than this
i have placed an explanation for each step making this tutorial very detailed, so if you follow this step by step, it will be kinda hard for you to fail your kernel recompile.
