process viewer

I was browsing a few linux kde skins, and i see that many people have apps that monitor what is running and how much memory etc, with a little line graph.....where can i find a program like that for mepis? also is there one available for windows? for either i am hoping for freeware. It would be really nice to have just running on my desktop like in the wallpaper. i know windows has that active desktop thing, could i use it there? any help?
