I'm having some problems writing files to my windows partition. I have the windows partition mounted using the umask=000 option in fstab. The partition and all of its subdirectories are showing that the user (sluggo) has read write execute. The file I'm trying to write to also has full permissions. I was able to copy a small file (10kb) to a folder on the windows partition, but unable to copy a large file (4 MB). Logging in as root didn't help either.
I think that lies in windows FAT as we use ext2 fs on linux permissions are set in inode but in FAT inode(even thir is no consept of inode as such) dosen't stores access permissions.
I'm not at my Linux computer right now, but said something like:
"Cannont not write file to /mnt/win98/xxxx.."
It was a very basic message and did not mention a problem with permissions, nor did it give any specific error such as "not enough space, folder doesn't exist, etc".
I'll check my computer when I get home and edit this.
I've had no problems moving 40-50Megs at a time over to windows, so I know it's possible. You may want to specify how you are trying to move or copy, eg. what command and options if any etc...?
The error I'm getting is:
"could not write to" and then the path and file name.
I get this error when I try to drag and drop with the konqueror file browser.
Here's the interesting bit though. I was playing around with copying some more files, and I'm getting this error when I copy a file with "zip" extension. It doesn't have anything to do with the file size.
I've now tried using a terminal shell, with the command:
cp jungle.zip /mnt/win98
and I get the error:
cannot stat 'jungle.zip': no such file or directory
but the command:
cp jungle.rar /mnt/win98 works fine.
