Problem with sound card configuration


I am new to Linux, when I start KDE as ROOT it says Error while initializing the sound driver.
device/dev/dsp can't be opened(no such device)
I am using Intel 8086:24c5 PCI sound card. (Thats what sndconfig told me). Can anybody help me out to configure sound on my pc

I tried with sound cofig too

I tried with sndconfig too, but it says "The Intel Corp. |unknown device 8086:24c5 is not supported.
