I have a PDF file which mainly uses GoudyOldStyleBT-Roman font. This font is embedded in the PDF file too.

When I print the file from my Redhat Linux machine, everything prints fine except the single quote (') and double quote (") characters. The single and double quote characters are replaced by some special character.

Why does this happen? What could I be doing wrong?

PS: The file prints properly from my Windows machine. I don't have "GoudyOldStyleBT-Roman" installed on my Windows machine. It must be using the embedded font while printing the file from Windows.

You're idea sounds like a possibility to me. One possible workaround is to use the "Print as image" option in Acrobat Reader (I'm assuming that's what you're using). You can find it under File->Print->Advanced
