Unhappy Problem opening odt document in LibreOffice

I have a password protected ODT document created in Libre Office 3.5. For a system crash, I have Libre Office 3.4 again. But when I tried to open the document, Libre Office showed the following error :
Code:
Read-Error.
Format error discovered in sub-document styles.xml at 1,0(row,col).

Try opening with 3.5. documents made in newer versions are sometime incompatible with older versions.

Hi,

trying to get more visibility on this:

you have an ODT doc created in 3.5?
Your system crashed?
You tried to open it in 3.4? Or was it 3.5?

I had a quick look at duckduckgo and there are a few leads:

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Format+err...8row%2Ccol%29.

Good luck

I viewed the styles.xml file, but because it is encrypted, nothing was understandable. Also I cannot upgrade to Libre Office 3.5 since I have to download about 63MBs in my slow Internet connection.

you HAD 3.5

Reinstallation after the OS failure gave me LibreOffice 3.4 back. I am using Ubuntu 11.10 and I found this in my repository (Ubuntu museum for old releases). Sorry, but I would like to use 3.4 because it has some features which I cannot find in 3.5. Can you please tell me how to decrypt it? Then perhaps I will able to repair it.

Dirty solution - IF YOU DONT HAVE TOO MANY FILES.
  • Locate a computer with LO 3.5 (or above)
  • Open and save as RTF or .doc
  • Read it on 3.4
  • SaveAs ODT

Isn't 4.2 the latest.

Whereabouts do you reside? Can you get some altruist to download 3.5 and cut it for you on a disk?

OK

that explains it
11.04 went END OF LIFE back in October of 2012

it has NOT gotten any SECURITY updates in 1.5 years

it should NOT be used
