Can someone please help.
I'm trying to isntall amsn by using an rpm and I get the following error:

error: Failed dependencies:
/usr/bin/wish is needed by amsn-0.81-1
Can someone tell me what this wish thing is and how I get it/install it?

amsn is written using tcl/tk, of which wish is a command. get tcl/tk and its libraries.

thank you.
Do you know where I can get them?
will they be rpms that are easily installed?

What distro are you running? Google around for it...

Edit:
Just seen that you're using Redhat - sorry!...There should be rpms freely available from any rpm repository.

I think I may have got something on Synaptic.
have installed it and got amsn running.

Is there an easier way to start it than going to the terminal and typing ./amsn?

you can have a shortcut/icon on your panel or wherever. let the command be "wish <pathtoams>/amsn" and you can start it by clicking on this button

Sorry, I didn't follow you.
What button do you mean?

Sorry, but I am new to this.

How would you go about getting an icon on your desktop to start amsn?
I know it's easy in Windows but it isn't obvious to me how it could be done in Linux, when the only way to start the app is to type ./amsn into the terminal.

thanks

sorry i didnt give a more detailed response last time.
what window manager are you running? gnome/kde/...?
if its one of those and not something like flux/ice/enlightenment/... you would:

try and make a shortcut just like in win32. for instance, say you want it on the panel (if you still havent pictured what i'm saying, click this: http://cs.nyu.edu/~prm225/img/scrshot.png). if you notice i have icons on the "panel" which will run the program just as we have "quick links" on win32.
to have this, all you have to do is right-click on the panel, and there will be some option which says "add launcher" or "add prograsm" or something of the sort. you select that. then, for the "command" to execute, you tpe in what you would on the terminal, but give the complete path to the program. for eg:, i have amsn sitting in the dir /home/src/amsn. so my command will be
Code:
wish /home/name/src/amsn/amsn
where /home/name is my home dir. and fill in the other options like "name" where you would say "amsn" or "msn" or whatever you like.

thanks h/w. That's really clear.
I appreciate you taking the time to detail that for me.
All the best,
Ludwig
