Printing

Ok.. I am able to print test pages fine. lpd is started. When I try and print from applications I have no luck. I am trying to print my smb.conf files from gedit. Why won't this print.

Thanks

Hmmm....for now you can print your smb.conf file from the command line? Like so: lpr smb.conf

Thanks that worked. Any one have clues to why this won't print from the GUI.

I am experiencing the same problem with RedHat 8.0. I can print from the command line and I can print test pages but I can not print from any application. The printers that I have installed do not show up in the printer list in any application although lpd is indicated as waiting in the ps aux list. Any ideas?

What kind of printers are you using? Is there more than one driver available for that printer? For example I have a cheap-o Lexmark 3200, there are two drivers available for that particular model...if I pick "driver a" it works fine, but if I try "driver b" forget it.

Lexmark T612 and HP Laserjet 4600dn. They are both queued through a Novell server but I could try jetdirect. Drivers, good point. I'll try to update the drivers for the Lexmark. Thanks

You might want to test some other filters used in GEdit. Just a thought...
