pop3/smtp services


Hi All,

I am having a Linux 7.2 Server with sendmail. We have now migrated to Lotus Notes

I now want to stop the pop3 as well as the smtp services

Can anyone please help me with the steps for the same.

for smtp
# service sendmail stop
# chkconfig sendmail off <- to disable the service from run on boot.

for pop3
remark pop3 line in /etc/inetd.conf
# service inetd restart

if there is no other service needed from inetd.conf, u can disable the service as well.

But for smtp I am not able to find inetd.conf in /etc

I found identd.conf in /etc

Please suggest

from previous post u said u use sendmail as your smtp
so below commands shud able to disable the service.
# service sendmail stop
# chkconfig sendmail off

and for pop3, i assume it not using inetd.conf.
in this case u can take a look in /etc/init.d/ if there is pop3 service there. if there is u can disable it using the same commands above.
