Ok... im trying to do somthing that I dont quite know enough to hack.... and I was hoping one of you crazy hackers could help out (because I know you pwn
)
Heres what I have, and what I am trying to do.
I am using a hacked up guestbook script to run a signup list for a Lanparty event. The script is called egbook and can be downloaded from
http://ekstreme.com/phplabs/egbook.php
Basically, I modified the script to look like a signup page rather than a guestbook, and to fit into the pages layout. No big deal. The problem is this: Some of the signup info is stuff that I dont want to be visible to the entire world. Phone numbers and Email addresses.... I want to be the only one able to see them..... I dont want 100 people contact info to be available at a glance to unauthorized individuals.
I have looked at a few other scripts on google to try to find a php script that I can do this with with no sucess.... and most of the cgi stuff isnt customizable enough (and is much harder to edit)
I see there as being two possible ways to fix my little problem that would be acceptable, and was hoping one of you would have an idea of how how to implement it.
Meathod one: Fixing the script to add a varible that makes certain fields simply not display on the site. I can still see them by going to the data directory.... but they dont disply on the page that shows signups. This would probally be the better way... but I dont really know where to start. I am looking at the code... but I just dont know nearly enough php.
Meathod two: some kind of shell script (i have ssh acess to the server) that will read all of the files, copy new file contents to a single contact info file, and deleate the sensitive lines from the origional files so they dont display on the site. It would be ok if this script only ran a few times a day... i can deal with temporary displays... i just dont want the entire list sitting there.
Possible Problems:
1
my nibishness
2
the script saves the data files as write protected, so any script that modifes them would have to deal with that
3
I have never played around with cron... so I guess im going to have to learn that too if we go the script route. Guess its about time for me to get into that if we do it that way anyway.
Anything you can do to help me... I ask that it be well enough documented that I may actually learn enough to do similar things next time.
The page this is running on is here:
http://www.mt.asyserver.com/lanpa/signup.php
I have temporarily removed the include for the list until we get this straitened out.
I hope that im not asking too much, and that one of you has time to work with me on this. Thank you in advance
