I am working on a Ubuntu 14.04. I installed it 3 months ago and never had this problem. Yesterday evening before shutting off the computer i let the update manager update softwares on it (don't know if related but this is really the only major event i can remember on it yesterday).
When i boot my computer i reach the graphical login interface, i select the user and type my password. Since this morning when i type my password and then press enter or click the Arrow, the screen goes black briefly and then goes back to the login interface.
I opened the console with Ctrl+Alt+F1 and there the login/password are working.
I tried a "df -h" to see how much free space i had and noticed that i had less than 3% free so by using the console i cleaned a little my personnal folders to now have 25% free because i thought maybe the updates took to much space for the system to be stable. This changed nothing.
Then i checked with "/bin/ls -l ~/.*authority" and got :
Code:
/bin/ls: cannot acces ls: No such file or directory
-rw------- 1 spi spi 20794 mai 21 09:05 /home/spi/.ICEauthority
-rw------- 1 spi spi 87 mai 21 09:05 /home/spi/.Xauthority
So from my knowledge my ownerships and permissions look fine.
After that i don't really know what to check or do to solve this problem.
