Reinstalling PAM should fix the problem

It may be like a corrupt file in
/etc/pam.d/

Thumbs up passwd: User not known to the underlying authentication module

Hi

If anyone got the error "passwd: User not known to the underlying authentication module" while entering the password for a user then try with the below

Enter the command pwconv and try to change the password of the user.

passwd <username>
New UNIX password: Type the new password
Retype new UNIX password: Re-enter the same password

Thanks and Regards,
Sudam
