may i surgest using an up to date linux distro, quite alot has happened in laptop support in the 2.6 kernel.

what do you actually mean by "does not show up" ?
no /dev/ node ???? or you havent added it to your kde desktop ?
post some info.
1) post your fstab,
2) IDE or SCSI ?
3) SCSI Address / IDE address ? primary slave, secondry master... what ?
4) i will be VERY surprised if redhat isnt detecting your cd-rom drive..... what does your kernel say about your cd-rom ???
