I have an issue with newline characters in both names of files and folders.
Setup:
Windows clients (mix of XP and Server 2003) rsync using cygwin to a Debian Etch box nightly.
Some clients create foldernames with apparently newline characters. ls -l on the linux box shows "folder?". ls -b shows "folder/r".
What is causing these? Is there a character set or something that needs to be defined? It only happens when it creates folders and files, not the contents of the files themselves. If I pre-create the folder/file (sans-gremlin characters) on the target before syncing, it will ignore the existing folder/file and create its own with the character at the end.
Thoughts? Is this a problem on the Windows machine or rsync itself?
Never came across an issue like that before, but
one thing springs to mind: Cygwin, on install,
asks you what kind of line-ends to use, Unix or
DOS; what did your guys choose?
Is there a config file to view/change that? The contents of the file have the correct line feeds; its the file and folder names themselves that are screwy. Like the file creation mechanisms are wrong.
