new rpms in apt4rpm database

I'm not exactly sure how the apt4rpm database works however, I tried to install a couple rpms for freeswan yesterday. I coulnd't type "apt-get install freeswan" because freeswan doesn't exist in the apt4rpm database. I had to install them the old way.. " rpm -ivh ... " .

My questions are:
1) is there a way to add freeswan to the apt database?
2) because I installed the freeswan rpms manually does apt recognize them?

thanks

Either FreeS/WAN would have to set-up a repository on their website, or somebody with a respository would have to add the apporpriate RPMs to theirs. There was recently a thread about repos'ies... Maybe search for it and check them.

I'm not too sure about it, but I would guess apt looks through the RPM database to see what is installed, and then compares that to the lists it get from the repos'ies. So, it should be able to recognize anything you install manually and upgrade it if a new version shows up in a repos.

thanks!

is there a command to check what is in my apt database? It would be similar to "rpm -qa | grep freeswan"
