new linux system

hey everyone, here's the deal: I am on a limited budget. Very limited. But thankfully a little goes a long way (pricewatch.com)

I am building a barebones system for Red Hat 9, or FreeBSD (havent decided yet)

question 1: Has anyone had experience with the onBoard (Shared memory) Video cards. Do they run X well? I would think so, and im not doing anything graphic intensive, possibly later down the line i can upgrade the video.

Since the system will be used mostly for server type applications , it makes sense to save money with integrated sound, 10/100, and video....however are there any drawbacks. If anyone has a system as mentioned, how it is? Any lag?

thanks guys

I have a 486 that could probably do everything fine but the X windows stuff, which is why im getting the new system.

As long as the chips are supported (video, audio, LAN), you should be fine. Afterall, a laptop is basically the same thing... Everything is (usually) integrated into the motherboard.
