Need image CD that works for computers with different Hardware
I am helping start up an internat cafe in africa and I need to make a image cd that the lab admin there can just pop into a computer that installs linux and configures it without him/her having to do anything except, well, put the cd in and hit enter, it would have to work on computer that are very different form eachother because the lab consists of 100% donated computers so we have no controll as to what the specs are, but, they are all AT LEAST 486's with 32-64 megs of ram and a 240 med hdd, all that has to be on there is KDE, Oppenoffice and some other small software programs.
I don't recall any linux which does a better job of hardware detection than Knoppix. But if you want to do a hard drive install with 240MB hard drives, that could be a problem. Also, running big programs like KDE on 32MB of ram could be a nightmare.
I have installed Peanut linux which is really easy to do. It does have a lot of nice things like KDE, but the same problems apply as before.
Edit: Another idea is to make your own Knoppix remaster or find one of the many already out there. Look for one with much of the extra stuff removed and still has the knx-hdinstall so you can load it onto a small hard drive.
Thats almost what I need, if it had KDE then that would perfect, but the GUI is too hard for people who have little experence with computers to use, if possible it would nice to have somthing like the program you see in Anti-Trust in the daycare where the choldren computers are running linux with a strange desktop look with only like 7 icons, somthing like that would be nice, or somthing like Elearnix that can be installed to the HDD.
I have checked out Peanut linux and it looks like what we need, I will check it out further thanks for the help
also, if you happen to know the name of the program they use in Anti-Trust on the daycare computer(if it even exists) the name of the program or a similar program would me awesome
Anti-Trust or the program they use in the daycare?
Anti-Trust is a movie
The program i the daycare was a GUI that was very simple, like those computer for old people where you boot up the computer you get a screen with like 5 options like Check mail, Games, Internet, ect..
The options are really big and obvious buttons on an image or somthing
