file ownership

Very likely this is a file ownership/permission problem. The config file for the zone (/var/named/p/4855000 maybe?) cannot be read by the deamon. "ls -l" lists the owner of the file and permissions. (See also chmod, chown, and the "info" documentation on file ownership and permissions.) In my experience named, the dns server, runs as either the "root" user, or the "named" user. You wouldn't have this problem if named ran as "root", so be sure "named" has the permissions needed to read the file.

Also remember that the deamon will need permissions to look in the directories (all the way up to /) that contain the file. This means "x" permission on the directories.

The "info" docs are more helpful than the "man" docs here.
