In Windows, when I have all of my family photos laid out as icons, it automatically "pre-views" the photos. By "pre-view," I mean as the icons are displayed, they just turn into photos themselves, making it easy to visually identify them, instead of going by file name (helpful when you have several hundred to go through).
In Linux (MEPIS 3.43) it doesn't do that. The icons are "viewable" only for small size photos (say, less than 0.5 mb) but not the larger size photos (say, more than 0.5 mb).
Questions:
1) Why is this happening?
2) How do I fix Linux to make it "show" the icons as actual photos instead of generic jpg icon (in other words, how do I get it to do it the way Windows does)?
...basically, I want viewable thumbnails...like I get in Windows XP. I use KDE, MEPIS 3.43. I don't know what you mean when you say "which application" I am using....I just open up the folder containing the large file size photos....and instead of appearing as viewable thumbnails like the small file size photos do, the thumbnail is just some generic icon. Of course, if I click on the photo (regardless of size) I can view it, but that defeats the point. I want all of my thumbnails / icons to be viewable, not just those of a small file size.
I am able to "right click" go to "properties" and select "preview" and then I get a preview in a separate window. Also, while playing with the "Tools" menu above, I was able to actually create additional thumbnails / icons....but that is not what I need. I do not need to "create" additional thumbnails / icons...I need the current large file size thumbnails / icons to behave like the current small file size thumbnails / icons.
I hope this clarifies....it is difficult for me to put into words. I know in WindowsXP, I "associate" every jpg file with an old Ulead photo viewer / editor....perhaps I need to do that same thing with Linux?
If your refering to the Icon View in Konqueror... It is set not to preload large images for increased loading times... You can increase the file size preview in:
