Naming the Machine?

im still pretty new to linux and learning the ways around. i hope this isnt a dumb question, but its one ive been wondering about for a long time. i have rh9 and was curious if you could name the machine like you do in windows? so instead of having to reference by ip you can find the machine by its name?
