Mp3 file info on my modest 8GB library

My mp3 / ogg collection is increasing every day, and i currently have around 8.5 GB of music. My problem is the file information and file names of all my tracks. As they are all downloaded from various sources they have hundreds of different naming structures and conventions,. When i load my entire libray in xmms it's hard to group everthing together, i would have to go through and manually arrange the order of all the songs, and every day i wold have to update it. I've tried other programs like Amarok and Noaturn but they also suffer the same problem. I always end up going back to xmms because of the equalizer, track queuing, and the skinning capability.

What i want to know is, somewhere could there be a way of scanning all the files in my music dir and updating their filnames and embedded file info? I noticed when i copy cd's to ogg to add to my collection using Sound Jicer CD Ripper it downloads all the file info for the CD. Is there some way to use this technology in a custom script. If someone who knows this program or similar could help me get started hopefully we can write a script nd post it on my website for others to use as i'm sure many people who download music would like to be able to do this.

I'm thinking though that all this information sound juicer downloads must be on the CD, and not in the files themselves. Any suggestions
