Mozilla and downloading images

I used Netscape for a little bit and just like Internet explorer, when i clicked on an attachment in message boards so download an image it just opened up in the browser for me in a new window. Well with Mozilla it has me pick an application to open it. This is inconvenient but i've been using /usr/X11/bin/display and it works. But it doesn't save that for some reason and asks me what to use EVERY time.

I went to preferences and set the right application for images and it still asks me. I unchecked the 'ask every time' checkbox for that type of file. Besides using another application, it would be nice if the image just opened up in another window like Netscape and IE.

Thanks for your time,
Lance

Right click on the image and view image. Also if its a hyperlink, select open link in a new window or tab. This only works on GIF, JPEG, and PNG. For other picture formats like BMP or TIFF you need the plug-in.

You can also configure certain files to default to a program. You need to know the MIME types of the file. You can try editing the configuration file by hand. Don't forget to make a backup file first.

It's still not working

For instance, here's a link.
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...hreadid=148285

Click on the attachment and in netscape in a new window i'd see the picture. With mozilla it opens a new blank window and also another window that says:

You have chosen to open a file of type: "JPEG Image" (image/,jpeg) from http://forum.bodybulding.com/

What should Mozilla do with this file?
Open it with:
Save it to disk
(checkbox) Always show this dialog before handling files of this type

I choose to use display and uncheck the box. But the box allways comes up asking me what to open it with. Even in preferences i picked what helper application to use, but it still asks whenever i open them.

Ahhhh!! Haha.

Thanks,
Lance

I click on the image and it loaded the image in Mozilla. You probably don't have Plugger installed. Check if its listed in the Help -> About Plug-ins.

I get the EXACT same behavior using Mozilla 1.5b
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.5b) Gecko/20030716 and I do have plugger installed.

I think this is a MIME related issue. If you read the popup that appears carefully, it states:

"This site has suggested that '[image]' be handled as an attachment. It is of type image/jpeg..." and so on.

If you were logged into that message board, you would probably not have that problem. I think the message board software is sending something to Mozilla which is causing Mozilla to treat that image as a file attachment instead of as an image it should just display.

I suggest looking to see if this has been reported in Mozilla's Bugzilla database. Even though this might not be a bug in Mozilla, the Mozilla developers might explain what's going on. I would search on "JPEG download" and see what hits you get.

Peace...
