Moving user passwords across servers

I'm moving my webhosting from one server to another. I set up the same users on the new server, then rsynced the directories across. Now I want to migrate the user passwords across as well so that I don't need to issue new passwords.

Can I just copy the relevant lines from /etc/shadow and overwrite the same lines in that file on the new server? Or is there something else I need to do to move the user passwords.

Provided you havent done anything "clever" with PAM, a simple copy should be fine.

You also need to copy over the relavent lines from /etc/passwd and /etc/group
