Movie File Formats
I have some online movies downloaded but I only downloaded the .avi files. The quality was okay, but not great. What are the better formats? Is Divx the best, and what players will play the best formats?

Divx is good for compression and quality, i use to download alot of em when i used windows, i'm not sure about it on Linux, but you might have to find a DivX player for playing divx movies...could be wrong though...

mplayer plays divx and YES divx is far superior in image quality of course taking into consideration the bit rate that the movie file was encoded at.
Also XINE plays divx through use of win32 codecs.
Do a google search on 'mplayer linux' and or 'xine'
May the source be with you

Cool, I have Mplayer. I'll test it out as soon as I can download a huge Divx file!
