move Debian install from a MSoft VM to a new (actual) machine.

The title says it all -
I have a working Debian on a MSoft VM, but want to move to a separate private actual physical PC.
Are there any easy ways to do this?

I have seen various posts on moving to a new machine, copy the file systems, etc. but it seems like a lot of the system stuff - partitions, /etc, are system dependent - so do I have to basically start over and install and setup each program and environment?
(I run a web server on the system.)

Using Clonezilla you should be able to backup the VM and then restore it on the new system.

Note the second line of my sig.

MBR or UEFI ? - both the same ?.
I haven't tried clonezilla in forever, but probably is the canonical solution. If UEFI you will have to reinstall grub - looks like clonezilla should offer to fix that for you. Like I said, dunno how good it is.
Personally I would probably preallocate partitions and do them individually, then fix grub and fstab myself. Note that you don't have to pull the harddrive/SSD from the target machine - you can take an image and use that to restore from.

My instinct tells me that, in the long run, it would likely be easier to install Debian fresh on the new computer. You could first verify the integrity of the install before moving to the next step.

Then, on the VM, save to external media the contents of /home, making sure to include any dot-config files you have modified, your mail store, and the like, as well as any files in /etc or elsewhere that you have modified (there would be no reason to back up files you have left at default). Then copy them in place on the new machine.

Just my thoughts.
