Mounting Curiousity

I have a question for curiousity sake. What happens if I mount a /usr from a server over an existing /usr on a client machine. If I direct linux to cd to /usr, will it then be looking at the directory stored on the server?

To the best of my understanding yes. I may be wrong, but I know that if you have 2 HDs with linux filesystems you could use /var from HDB and /boot from HDA and you will not be able to see /var on HDA unless you mount it to a mount point. I just know this because I had this happen without my knowing for a few minutes.

To be absolutely clear: If you mount say, /usr from hdb onto the mount-point of /var on hda, then the contents of /var will be perfectly fine (but unaccessable) and the contents of /usr will be in /var's place until umount'ed.

frkstein, in your hypothetical, you would be looking at the server's /usr directory.

PS: nice pun on the thread title

I think the last mounted hd have priority. I done a mistake like this before (-uh where's my cdrom? HEY what's happen to my /mnt directory?? ) but I'm not sure, maybe some others rules apply.
