Indeed. I don't think there's an elegant solution to this. I'd confined myself to a h/w RAID path in early days as it was originally installed in a SFF PC with an atom processor and only 2 Sata ports. It got moved into a budget LGA1150 motherboard to utilize spares I had, so forever compounded the issue. I guess this is the side effect of working on a shoestring.

It's been educational. I've learnt a lot.
