mount


i had already WINDOW XP installed in my PC then i installed FEDORA CORE 3.
but when i used mount command to mount my WINDOW XP Drives in my linux the linux prompt two things
1: /etc/fstab
2: /etc/mtab is not in dev dir
how could i get rid of this problem?
what is the procedure of mounting the Windows Drives.
I have 5 partitions and LINUX is installed in LAST partition.

Assuming your Windows partition is in hda1, you log in as root (needs admin privilege) and drop into a terminal mode. Type

mkdir /mnt/hda1
mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/hda1

then go to the desktop and check /mnt/hda1 and the files will be available.

Usually you need to specify the filesystem type as well, with the -t option. For NTFS, it's just -t ntfs and for FAT32, you use -t vfat, eg.

mount -t vfat /dev/hda1 /mnt/hda1

True but the modern Linux don't seem to bother. Think FC3 is one of them.

I only need to put the type in when there is actually something wrong with the partition, like it hasn't been formatted and with the filing system doesn't match the partition type.
