Well, it seems that Linux is more trouble than Windows, therefore I have concluded that Windows is still superior to Linux at this point. I WIL NOT switch to Linux. Why? Because I don't have the time to be Mr. Programmer here. I have work to do, games to play, and message boards to read. I use a computer because they help me get things done faster. Does anybody call spending an hour every night working on problems with Linux "Getting things done faster"???
All in all: If few programs work on Linux, and double booting with windows and Linux is so much trouble, then what the hell are these poor a**holes doin working with it???

Rep:
I think I get MUCH more work done in Linux than I did in windows. No BSOD, no reboots, no registry edits - I could go on and on. While I do agree that Linux is still a little harder to setup I really think that the effort is more than worth it. Almost ALL windows programs have a Linux equivilant and for those that don't you can use vmware or wine. Why are you so angry that some people prefer Linux??
Hi There.
Yep, I still use windows,(NT) because there's programs on it that I must have, and because I'm still very new to Linux. I don't duel boot, I simply run another old computer with RH 7.0 to learn when I have time.
(no X )
Honestly though, I would love to install Linux on the main comp that I'm typing this on now, with no Windows.
I don't hate Win, I just have a high regard for Linux.
Your comments about spending hours on Linux to achieve success??
I have no idea how long I have spent on the net in the past trying to work out problems with Windows installs, but some of them were marathon efforts.
And I can still vividly remember five years ago when we purchased our first computer, sitting up until 4am in the morning trying to work out, and understand the basics, so as to "get those programs running" (sound familiar??)
It's cosy inside the world of Windows, I don't think that the Penguin is a DIRECT replacement for Win, and I'm glad.
To ewaltonl: Do you have a question, do you have some licences to sell or are you just trolling around? No one will force you to use linux, and you can leave the promoting of Win to the MS marketing department. I am Mr. Programmer for a living, and I did projects both with Linux and NT. Its very annoying when in the middle of a debug-session and being stopped with a BSOD. But it is really frustrating when editing a doc and NT decides to crash. I never had such problems with suse or slack. Indeed those MS OSses are best for playing games on them, and that's what I use them for.
Mr. ewalton, I think you're just frustrated. I too am brand new to Linux and am feeling the blows of learning a new OS too; however, I just happen to love this type of thing. If you're all for fun and games Linux doesn't seem like your ticket.
The reason I decided to learn is the fact that I do some web programming and design (as well as app programming) and our web server where I work is a Linux box.
Here is what really impresses me, we have a couple of Linux servers at work that have been running for well over a year and have never made the first burp or anything. No 'this program has performed an illegal operation', etc. Never crashed! Try that with NT!
As far as desktop OS, I normally run 98 for using Flash, Fireworks, Dreamweaver, etc; however, if you're in the IT field, it seems Linux will be present anf prudent for years to come!
I don't recall once working countless hours getting my Linux machine to run, but I can't count the number of times I had to sit and fix some kind of issue with my Windows box. It seems to me I get things done faster in Linux than Windows, due to the fact I have to reboot all the time in Windows to "get things done faster."
Actually about the programs, I only use Windows cause my pritner isn't supported and scanner. You can get anything to work in Linux, but I guess for someone that doesn't want to take the time to get it working right one night and never have to deal with it again doesn't deserve to use a OS that is so robust as Linux is.
I never heard of one person spending countless hours on their Linux machine, unless they are actually working in it, not on it.
Windows is more superior in the fact that Grandma and Grandpa get a $2000 dollar computer to chat or send email ( HINT, Linux is not for them yet), its not for the average user yet, are you an average user ewaltonl? You sure sound like one! Just stick with Windows and stop complaining, you sound worse than my two year old when he wants a piece of candy.
Did you actually TRY to make Linux work, or did you give up during the installation?? If you have problems with the installation, try another vendor. But, before you give up and go crying to Microsoft, give Linux an actual try.
You talk about spending hours to get a machine to work? I haven't, and I've done installations on about 6 different machines. Windows superior?? Don't think so. I've been doing tech support for a year and a half. Windows is for old folks and little kids who don't understand the complexities of the system. Windows takes care of that for them.
Read the posts on this site, read a book or two, and actually try to work with Linux. You'll find that you were wrong about a lot of things.
I like your conclusion, based on solid, reliable, cross-board eveidence which even Stataticians couldn't argue with. I bet that you have grown up with windows, use it every time you access a computer. And you want to learn Linux in a week?
Whatever your reasons for not enjoying your brief stay with the penguin I think you are posting at the wrong site. You probably want http://www.microsoft.com or http://www.windowsrules.com (this one doesn't actually exist! No surprise really!) and you may want to bask in your triumphant glory at such a post.
But I bet that you were probably frustrated, of what I don't know. The only other posts here from you were about your concerns of losing your windows apps, nothing about the problems you were facing. Why not ask nicely, and you may be surprised at the help you can get. Then again, Linux may be safer without you.
