modprobe modules

Distinguish Forum Participants

I have been trying to run the modprobe command for a while now but each time I get a error as follows:

bash: modprobe: command not found

I tried the locate command and It came back as follows:

[root@localhost namich]# locate modprobe
/etc/modprobe.conf.dist
/etc/modprobe.conf
/etc/log.d/conf/services/modprobe.conf
/etc/log.d/scripts/services/modprobe
/usr/share/man/man5/modprobe.conf.5.gz
/usr/share/man/man8/modprobe.8.gz
/sbin/generate-modprobe.conf
/sbin/modprobe

based on these i can see the directories are there, so why is my system reporting command not found. Are these not default command within the OS.

Thanks

It's not in your users path. Either add the /sbin to your $PATH or type it out fully..

/sbin/modprobe <module-name>

are you trying to run modprobe as a user other than root?
