Migrating to linux

Hello there,

I have used slackware in 1997 and was satisfied with it. I currently use XP and am downloading slackware as we speak so I can migrate to slackware.

I have some very important mail messages stored in Outlook 2000. I managed to exports these messages in .pst format and re-import everytime I reinstalled XP. They are pretty important to me. My question is, in what format should I export these messages so I can re-import them later in slackware? I am not sure as to what e-mail client I'll use in slackware so I appreciate your recommendations on email clients available for slackware as well.

Regards,
Haluk

If you want an email client "similar" to outlook/express then I'd recommend mozilla-thunderbird, there's a windows port of it too so you could practice importing/exporting emails to it in windows to make sure.

be sure to keep www.linuxpackages.net in mind on slackware, it's a very useful site if you don't know already.

Once I dl and install I'll be sure to visit the site you recommended. I remember using Windows port of firebird. But I'm not sure if it's similar to thunderbird

You may also want to check out Evolution email program, on Linux. Can be easily downloaded. One of the popular email clients; has quite a few extra functions that Thunderbird doesn't have, but they're both pretty nice and smooth. I myself prefer them both to Outlook.
