I'm not having any luck getting sound to work on my HP laptop running SuSE 7.3 with a sound card YaST describes as "MediaMagic 256AV Audio Device on Voyager III"...on login I get this error message as a popup:

unix_connect: can't connect to server (unix: /tmp/mcop-username/linux_local-0407-3dcdaf5c)

Trying to install/configure the sound using YaST2 gets me:

The kernel module snd-card-nm256 for sound support could not be loaded. This could be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.

Didn't see anything in dmesg about sound or alsa..any suggestions?

Turned out ALSA wasn't recognizing my card, so I had to manually configure a module in /etc/modules.conf. Nice to have things working.
