Mandrake DVD and windows partition mount problems

Hello,

Ok so I have Mandrake 10 official and I have been quite happy with it... till now
Suddenly all my mounts don't seem to work anymore. All of the sudden, I check out my /mnt/windows directory and no windows anymore. I also use K3B to burn a CD with my new LG 4082B drive but whenever I put a DVD+RW in the damm thing it just locks up the computer until I eject it. It did work once before but not anymore. It still reads standard CDs ok but DVD don't work.
I was thinking it was the LG firmware that was to blame since I seem to be having similar problems with windows but the thing is that it did work for formating one DVD+RW disk a while back (a Verbatim so the media isn't the culprit). I did plug in a firewire drive since and the mounting seem to have gone oddly since there were leftover drive icons on my desktop ever since.
As possible remedies
- I tried to change the firmware of the DVD half a dozen times since the 4082B seem to have some problems.
- I tried to uninstall and reinstall the mandrake autofs package
- I tried to take a look at my fstab :
/dev/sda1 / ext3 defaults 1 1
none /dev/pts devpts mode=0620 0 0
/dev/sda6 /home ext3 defaults 1 2
none /mnt/cdrom supermount dev=/dev/hdc,fs=auto,ro,--,umask=0,user,iocharset=utf8 0 0
none /mnt/cdrom2 supermount dev=/dev/hdd,fs=auto,ro,exec,--,umask=0,user,iocharset=utf8,noauto 0 0
none /mnt/floppy supermount dev=/dev/fd0,fs=ext2:vfat,--,iocharset=utf8,nosuid,umask=0,unhide,nodev 0 0
/dev/sdb1 /mnt/windows auto iocharset=utf8,noauto,nosuid,umask=0,user,kudzu,nodev 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/sda5 swap swap defaults 0 0

- I tried to disable and unable the mandrake supermount function
- I did make sure that I had all the K3B components installed including the DVD tools

I'd just like to get the system to function like it did when I installed it. Is there anyway to have Mandrake reinitialize the system so that drives are detected like on day 1 of installation? Have people experienced similar problems with the LG 4082B drives? How about after using a firewire drive? I have an OEM LG that was bought in Spain and each time I did the firmware upgrades it seemed to work OK (I got a successful message from the windows partition using the LG standard firmware and the zone free dangerous brothers one). However windows NERO 6.3.XXX seems to be locking up as well - I'm beginning to wonder if this isn't 2 separate problems : a mount problem and a DVD problem
I'm getting desperate for solutions since neither the DVD and the windows partition are mapped now :-(
Thanks
D.D.
