Since upgrading to mandrake 8.2 I have a small problem with my
NVidia graphic card drivers. I installed the latest version from the
source code and made the neccessary changes to XFree86-4 and
upon starting X I got the NVidia Splash screen indicating that all
was well. However on reboot of the machine startx gives an error
telling me that the NVDriver could not be loaded and screens were
found but where not suitable. On investigation it appears that the
NVdriver module had not been loaded and modprobe NVdriver
followed by startx enables X to start OK.
What I need to know is why the module is not loading automatically
and what can I do about it. I am in the middle of a download at the
moment so I will post the exact messages later if no-one can shed
any light on this issue for me. I suspect it is something trivial to do
with the startup and not the X config so I will ask the question
without the messages for now.
Do I need to add a modprobe to one of the startups cripts in the
appropriate runlevel or something like that?
Any assistance greatly appreciated, by the way if anyone in the UK
wants copies of the MDK8.2 discs (3)drop me a note and I can burn
them for you for postage and cost of CDRs. I managed to get them
just after release but if it is anything like 8.1 the servers will be
very slow by now!
Just one clarification, you have upgraded to Mandy 8.2 from 8.1 I guess, but the Nvidia drivers when they were installed, after the upgrade or they were installed on the 8.1 system and then just migrated into 8.2?
Huh?
Yep Mandy 8.1 to 8.2. I had an older version of the NVidia drivers on 8.1
But got rid of them and compiled the latestest version immediately
after the upgrade
does modprobe NVdriver ( is this a correct name, I am not 100% sure, I am at work away from my toy) helps? If it doesfor some reason, put insmod NVdriver under in /etc/rc.local. see if this resolves the issue.
