Mainframe to Linux environment

Just wondering how linux inserts line feeds in print lines for printing..how does it know when the end of a line is there and whether to space one line or two lines or next page. Working on moving MF to Linux environment

Hi, and welcome to LQ!

EndOfLine = LineFeed = '\n' = ASCII(10)
(as opposed to DOS [which uses \r\n] or the mac [which uses \r])
Same for a new line (and two for two of them).

A new page is a
FormFeed = '\F' = ASCII(12)

man ascii for details.

HIH

Cheers,
Tink
