Question Locate command

hey guys,

i'm trying to us the locate command and it comes back "locate: /var/lib/locate/locatedb: No such fiel or directory"... I can tell that it's looking for a database as a base reference for it's search, but it's not there, how can do i go about building this database?

I've read a little about slocate and to use it to built the database but my linux says command not found,

there's my problem, how can i fix this?

thanks ahead always,

locate

I believe that you need to run, as root, the command 'updatedb'. When that finishes, try again to 'locate' something. You might possibly need to run 'locate' as root also.
