Your Local LUG may track events that are in the area, and you can always hook up with someone to share costs for events that are Near your home but not in Dallas..

For instance I attended the
Ohio Linuxfest in Columbus OH this year. I live in Northern Ohio about 3.5 Hours away. 4 people from our LUG carpooled down and split the cost of the hotel, etc.. made the event more affordable for all of us. Otherwise I might have skipped the event.
