Linux The worlds fastest growing OS

Well I just like to hear from everyone in 1 forum for many uses of Linux to show other viewers and new viewers what they can do. So what can you do with Linux or what do you do? I'm Interested.

Right now I do with Linux

Webhosting
VPS (In Works)
Shared hosting
Dedicated Server (Planned)

Multimedia
Backup Server
Experimenting with it.

These are some of the things that I either do or working to learn to do. What do you do or want to do. Can even been something you want to see done.

Please feel free to say what you want. Inspire some Windows Users to get into some Linux and realize the reasons why they should join the community.

I can do everything in Linux which I used to do in Windows. It took some time for me to adjust to fundamental differences between the way the two systems do things, but given some time and the willingness to actually try new things I think many Windows users probably could get along fine with Linux.

There are a few Windows only programs I used which don't work in Linux. I found free and open source replacements for all of them. I haven't done anything in Windows besides Windows Update in a year or more.

This is to show what users can do with Linux if they are willing to try it and show them all the microsoft jargon that they may have heard is twisted to be mis understood.

Thanks everyone for posting.

It's an odd thread on a linux forum. You're preaching to the choir. 99% of the members here are people who don't need to be shown what they can do on linux.

Wouldn't it be better to start such a thread on a windows forum? Actually not, it'd be considered as pure liquid trolling, haha.

Anyway, what do I do on Linux?
1. The same things that I used to do on Windows
2. Things that involve CLI (which I didn't do on Windows)
3. Simple programming (which I didn't do on Windows)

Hope that helps

Well thank you for a reply. But I created this forums to show others outside the LlinuxQuestions community some ideas of things they can do in other forums, blogs, etc.

I live in Linux every day.

When I came to Linux about three years ago, I never want to return to Windows for daily use again. I can do most of things I can do in Windows and it's more convenient in Linux. I can change any aspect of my system. My computer acts in my way instead of the others.

But I keep Windows in my laptop. I need it only when I play games, aha

Worry Free

I've been messing with linux on and off for a while now. Mostly live CD's or DVD's, until about 2 months ago. I was finally just tired of the other guys. I've been free ever since that day, I've found that there is a program out there for linux that can do anything a program for windows can do. I might take a little longer to find but it is out there. I mostly do web browsing
DVD watching
messaging
video converting
some graphics

Thanks Linux.....

Professionally:
  • webservers
Private
  • 'normal' day to day stuff like email, surfing the web and typing documents.
  • processing of photos from my Pentax cameras using UFRaw, Gimp, jhead and mogrify

Well, there's very little you can't do. So far, I've been able to do everything I've tried to do.

Linux won't do the housework, won't cook my meals, won't make me irresistible to women...it's bloody useless!

Try using Apple products - they are for 'cool' people and once you've become an apple cool boy, there'll be no woman that can resist your charm.

well, it didn't work for me (when I bought an ipod), perhaps you'll have more coolness in yourself

Exactly, the problem (it's not a problem for us, anyway) lies in the fact you might have to use different methods or tools to accomplish the same end results (photoshop ==> gimp, etc)
