Sorry if this is obvious, but is your BIOS boot settings set so that the cd drive has a higher priority than the hard drive?

cancer10, what kind of hardware do you have?

If you have relatively new hardware I think the main big ones are all fine (Fedora, Ubuntu, Opensuse). Ubuntu have very good distro specific forums, but I found Fedora probably has fewer problems and issues.

On older hardware I hear the latest version of Vecor Linux has had some good usability updates that might make that an option.

Overall I think I would have chosen Ubuntu if I had bulk standard reasonably up to date machine with a standard IDE harddrive.
