Linux install will NOT boot


Im trying to install linux on a machine with xp already loaded. I set my boot device as cd-rom and all others disabled. I restart and it says

Boot From cd:....

So Im like cool its working. But xp then just boots up. Whats with that????

I'm guessing that you burned the cd incorrectly. Did you download an iso file? If so, iso files are burned differently then regular data files. You can find instructions on how to burn iso files at www.linuxiso.org .

Also, if you feel you burned them correctly make sure you ran a checksum on the isos to make sure nothing got corrupted during the download process.

Well Ive tried two different sets of iso files. They were burned as images in nero. And Ive also tried nero's imagedrive and that didnt work either. Hm....

Did you verify the md5sums of the images before burning? That is the safest bet before you start wasting wasted cdr's and such if they are turning out to be bad burns.

Also, which distro are you trying to burn and install? Some like Slackware have a thing about older bios's not recognizing the cdrom to boot from, etc...

My pc is newer. Im running an Asus A7N8x Deluxe. Im trying to install Mandrake 9.1 How can I check the isos? ont where to being with that.
