linux games

OK linux is not known as a gaming platform
BUT there are some out there and a few are pretty good
so what do you think are the best games for linux and where can they be gotten

the best I have found so far is gl-117 at http://www.heptargon.de/gl-117/gl-117.html

your can tweak the options to get better performance full screen at the highest resolution
preforms the best on my machine

these are web sites for games but what I wanted was games people here had tested
at one time of another I have tried to get a lot of these games working and most would just not build or not run

I would rather find out weather or not the game works before
I waste time on something that will not even build or run
wasting time playing a game is one thing
wasting time meeting dependences and finding out that the game will not even build or run is something I would rather not do

Even confirmation of games, successfully building and running (which i can give for many of those games) for others, is no guarantee that it will do the same for you. They all work, it's just that some may need more attention than others.

Somebody has to do it. Why not give something back?

If you want to minimise the risk of a game not building or running, stick to those provided by your repositories. Needless to say, using that method will mean, there are many games you will miss out on.

I run a 64bit port of Slackware
the only games that come with my distro are the ones that come with KDE + gnu chess

linux gamers has an imposable to get past bot check on all feed back so there is no way to report a non working game

linux games has less than 10 games I can't find a list of games other than what's on the main page
that makes this page pretty much usless

the linux game tome is also missing a list of games

this is just about what I keep running in to when it comes to linux games it's hard to even find a useful web site let alone working games

http://zerowing.idsoftware.com/

http://www.liflg.org/?catid=6

Id has their sourcecode here: http://www.idsoftware.com/business/techdownloads/ if that is what you want..

Debian has source in the source repositories..
for instance Openarena (the updated Quake3) http://packages.debian.org/source/lenny/openarena
