linux freezes with usb modem

i cant seem to make my d-Link DSL-200 modem work in linux, when i plug it in, he computer freezes.
if it is plugged in when the computer is turned on, then it freezes @ "Finding Module Dependencies".
if i comment out the "probeall usb-ohci" line then the computer wont freeze but the modem wont work.....

help please

first of all, it will never work if you comment out "modprobe usb-ohci" which will prevent recognize your usb controller from your linux box.
Trying plug it in before linux boot and see what it says

it just lock-up....no output at all...unless theres some logfile i should check.
i only commented out the line for test purposes
