Linux for an AMD Athlon 64 FX62 Duel Core Processor machine

Greetings Brains :-)

I recently upgraded my machine with an AMD Athlon 64 FX62 Duel Core Processor.
Then I downloaded UBUNTU 6.10 (64bit) and burned it to a CD.

When I rebooted to the CD, it failed to recognize the processor, complained and would go no further.

So - can anybody suggest a distro that can cope with my processor?

Thank you for any comments you care to make (-_-)

Julian

Doubt it is the processor more than likely the hardware on motherboard. What is in the machine for the hardware anyways? You could check out the AMD64 installer for Debian on this page it has kernel 2.6.18 on the latest or if you wanted too try the 32bit 2.6.19rc4 installer that is about as bleeding edge as it gets for newer hardware support.

I think it's no wonder it's not working.. since it's a duel core machine as opposed
to dual core they maybe wounded each other in the process?

Cheers,
Tink
