I have bought an Acer Aspire One A150 (1gb ram, 120gb storage and, having tried several Linux operating systems on this machine, have had ongoing problems with the wifi connection. Although I find the Linpus Linux Lite system which came with the machine to be very limited in functionality as compared to the likes of Ubuntu and Linux Mint, it definitely provides a more robust wifi connection. For that reason, I would like to try out Linpus Linux 9.6, but have had difficulty in downloading this software to create a boot disk. I am not an experienced Linux user, and have been using Vista on my other laptop to try to do this, but have not had any success yet. Can you give me some advice please on where to source Linpus Linux 9.6, and how to create a boot disk? Also, is it possible to obtain a user guide for this software?
Some of the newbie posters on this site seem quite knowledgeable to me, but I am not just a "newbie" to Linux, I am a pc user with no programming background. I will be extremely grateful for any help, but I might not benefit from it unless it is explained in reasonably plain words.
I don't know Linpus but as it seems you have more trouble with Linpus than you have with other distros where only your wifi is not working. Why not stick to Ubuntu/Mint and just fix the wireless connection there? I think it would be faster and easier for you this way.
Just a suggestion.
As I know, Linpus is co-working with Acer for AspireOne model, they have customized UI and all hardware compatibility issue.
You said you have wifi problem, could you tell us what problem you have.
Someone suggested that if Linpus was giving me so much trouble, why not just fix Mint or Ubuntu. My only problem with the Linpus supplied by Acer on the netbook is that it is too limited in functionality. My problem with the others is that the wifi connection is weak and unstable, and is sometimes difficult to reconnect without rebooting. I don't know how to fix that.
Since I originally posted the thread, I dual loaded Linux Mint 7 to both my A150 netbook and to my Acer Aspire 5720 laptop with Vista. The result was that Mint wifi on the netbook has a weak and unstable signal, but that the same program has a strong and stable signal on the laptop. I don't need Mint on the laptop - it was just an experiment.
Someone else suggested using Ubuntu Netbook Remix - I will look at that.
With the advice I have been given I hope that I can find a way to try out Linpus Linux 9.5.
The Acer Aspire One comes with Linpus Linux Lite which, although it meets a basic need, is very limited in terms of the software provided and its ability to easily download new software. It is, nonetheless, very quick and simple to use. If you have been used to Windows, it seems like a childs toy. The netbook itself is a joy to have.
I have looked at the "Ten tweaks for a new Acer Aspire One", and, although some of the advice can help improve the versatility of Linpus Linux Lite, it is still a complicated and time consuming process. I found some of it hard to follow, and I gave up at Tip 6 (Add Desktop Icons) which I couldn't get to work, and after that didn't have the confidence to continue. I did say in my original posting that my skills were limited.
So I am still looking for a user friendly package with a dependable wifi connection. I have yet to try out Ubuntu Netbook Remix which someone recommended. I remain hopeful.

Well, SliTaz Linux is great for weak wifi connections. I use it when I have to use that pathetic connection at Wendy's. It's around 30MB in size, but if you want a serious distro, use Fedora. I like fedora.
